There was an announcement from Kasetsart University Council dated on March 18, 2003 regarding the separation of the Department of Farm Mechanics, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen from the Department of Farm Mechanics, Faculty of Agriculture. The original Department of Farm Mechanics was established together with the Faculty of Agriculture under the Kasetsart University Act in 1943. The Faculty of Agricultural Science (former name at that time) offered a 5-year Bachelor degree
program and a 3-year diploma program in the curriculum of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry. The Department of Farm Mechanics was merged in the Agricultural Science Division that offered a Bachelor degree program with teaching and research in plant science and soil science.
In 1966, there was a royal decree to divide the faculties in Kasetsart University dated on March 1, 1966. Changing the name to Faculty of Agriculture, new 8 subject divisions were divided. The former Agricultural Science Division (plant science and soil science) was divided and changed the name to Plant Science Division.
In 1968, the Bachelor degree curriculum was changed to a 4-year curriculum.
In 1969, there was an announcement from Office of the Prime Minister regarding the division in Kasetsart University to change from subject division to department in all faculties.
In 1975, there was an announcement from Office of the Prime Minister regarding the division in Kasetsart University dated on October 2, 1975 to add 4 new departments in the Faculty of Agriculture including: 1) Department of Entomology, 2) Department of Plant Pathology, 3) Department of Agronomy and 4) Department of Horticulture. The original Department of Plant Science was separated into Department of Horticulture and Department of Agronomy.
In 1979, teaching and learning activities were started at Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Nakhon Pathom. The second semester of the academic year 1978 was started on November 8, 1979 for the 3rd and 4th year students in the Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) curriculum. Therefore, the Department of Farm Mechanics had to operate in 2 campuses namely 1) Bangkhen Campus and 2) Kamphaeng Saen Campus.
The 1st year students of the Department of Farm Mechanics have been transferred to study at Kamphaeng Saen Campus since the academic year 1985.
In 1999, there was a curriculum revision of the Bachelor of Science (Agriculture): Farm Mechanics to the Bachelor of Science (Farm Mechanics)
In 2003, there was an announcement from Kasetsart University Council regarding the division in the original Faculty of Agriculture and the establishment of the new Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen. The Department of Farm Mechanics, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen was still responsible to produce graduates in the Bachelor of Science (Farm Mechanics).
The Department of Farm Mechanics, Faculty of Agriculture at Kamphaeng Saen, recognized the need of graduates from various agencies, therefore, the curriculum Bachelor of Science (Farm Mechanics) was improved to the Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Machinery and Mechatronics) to offered for students enrolled in 2007 onwards. Thereafter, the curriculum has been revised in a 5-year basis as follows.
The 2007 revised curriculum, Bachelor of Science (Agricultural Machinery and Mechatronics), was offered for students with ID code 50xxx – 54xxx.
The 2012 revised curriculum was offered for students with ID code 55xxx – 59xxx.
The 2017 revised curriculum was offered for students with ID code 60xxx – 64xxx.
The 2022 revised curriculum was offered for students with ID code 65xxx – 69xxx.
In the academic year 2020, it was the first time that the department submitted its curriculum for internal educational quality assessment based on criteria AUN-QA
In the academic year 2022, the department offered 2 curriculums. The 2nd year students (ID code 64xxx), the 3rd year students (ID code 63xxx) and the 4th year students (ID code 62xxx) studied in the 2017 curriculum while the 1st year students (ID code 65xxx) studied in the 2022 curriculum.
In the academic year 2024, the department has started to revise the curriculum for students who will enroll in the academic year 2027 onwards.
